News - Broadway Bound News

On July 28, 2009 the Summerlin View (a Las Vegas Review Journal publication) published an article on Broadway Bound Kids on the front page of their newspaper. Needless to say, we were all thrilled to learn that they were going to be coming out to interview some of the cast and parents of our recent production of Seussical Jr, and our visonary par excellence, Jolie Rand.

Of course, Jolie, Nikki and I were on vacation in Sarasota, Florida at the time the article ran. So, we may have acutally been some of the last people to see the it. Oh, the irony... True to form though, Jolie was determined to find the article and the video on the Summerlin View's web site before we left for our day's activities at the beach, the result of which was that I parroted husband tape #2768, "Honey, we're on vacation. Can't it wait a few days until we get back?" After all, Jolie desperately needed this vacation, and the deal was no Broadway stuff for two weeks, period. There was no reply. Just a simple message conveyed with a well-practiced roll of her eyes that said, "Yeah, right..."

Well, who can blame her. After all, I don't know anyone who wouldn't get a little excited to see themselves, or something that they had a hand in, appear on the last page of a newspaper - much less the cover page.

So, there it was. A stalemate. I wanted to go to the beach and bask in the sun, and Jolie wanted to (understandably) bask in the limelight of her newspaper article first. Get the picture?

Enter Darcy Neighbors.

All's well that ends well...
While Jolie was furiously clicking around the Summerlin View's website looking for the article and the video that was suppose to be there, too, I decided that I might as well capitulate and check my email. So, I dragged my feet all the way to the guest house like a little boy who had to do his chores before playtime and I flipped open my laptop and started checking my email. Then, like a blinding ray of light from "on high"... Darcy's email appeared in my inbox with an attachment  containing a PDF of the newspaper article. I opened the email and anxiously double-clicked on the attached file and nearly jumped out of my shorts when I saw it actually was a scan of the newspaper article in PDF format. I tell you, it was like I had been healed in a tent revival somewhere in the backwaters of Mississippi. This was my ticket to the beach, and I remember thinking to myself, "Darcy, I love you."

Without hesitation, I forwarded the email to Jolie and ran (yes, I ran) from the guest house to the main house where Jolie was clicking away in her mom's office. Unfortunately, my hero status was short-lived because Jolie and Nikki had already found the online version of the article and the video. But, their excitement to see the actual newspaper article wasn't diminished by that fact. Having seen all they could see relating to the Summerlin View's reporting on Broadway Bound,Kids, we were off to work on our tans and gather some shells.

All that being said (and knowing us, I hope you got a laugh out of my plight), if you are now like Jolie was - clamoring to read the article - allow me to post the relevant links below. -Chaz
